Lure is the New Crown Jewel of Fifth Group!

The location of what was once an Atlanta icon; “Vickery’s” is now home of a new midtown hotspot; Lure. This Fifth Group destination is one of the crown jewels of the FG Family. And at the thrown is Executive Chef David Bradley who has masterfully defined the magic art of culinary chefdom. Once I stepped into the beautifully wood adorned dining area for the first time; I couldn’t’ help but anticipate the experience of what this virgin moment would possess.

STK is Sex in the City

Ladies be ready to try a stiletto that’ll surely be a nice addition to your dining ensemble. (Made with Grey Goose citron, cucumber, mint and fresh lime juice). Don’t be fooled in thinking that this is an all girls haven. The guys will also be equally enticed by a nice catch or two. The meet is always something to look forward to. Whether it’s a pan seared John Dory or the Beef Short Rib with carrot butterscotch –cipollini onion , you’ll be sure to feel like you’ve arrived. The climactical evening would not be complete without a toe curling and eye rolling inducing moment. The Birthday Cake is everything you ever wanted in a dessert (almond torte – cookies and cream – vanilla rum butter). Although you won’t be blowing out any candles with this dessert, you’ll begin to think that wishes do sometimes come true!

$$ The Southern Gentleman much like it’s name; bears a certain level of expectations of charm and chivalry. And as the sunlight greets you from the panoramic views of the “new” Buckhead; the nostalgic feeling of 1990s great times are waiting in the wings. The décor of this place is top notch. The dining area is laid out with peanut butter colored leather seating that surrounds a mix of high tops, booths and tables. On any given Saturday, there’s a banjo-toting musician that channels Obi Barthmann. The wait staff is extremely accommodating with a placid yet friendly and engaging disposition. The presentation is picturesque and delightfully delicious. If you’re looking for a cool place to dine that will keep you coming back; stop by TSG. Oh and the picture of the chicken and waffle is as good as it looks! J

One of the truest dining experiences to hit Atlanta can be found at True Food Kitchen located at Lenox Mall. You’ll leave the same way you walked in EXCITED! This restaurant is the total TRUE package when it comes to places to eat in Atlanta. Great food; check… Great atmosphere; check… Great service; check… Great price point… check and check! From the smiling faces that great you at the door to the ambiance that surrounds you as you breathe in the freshness all around. They use fresh local ingredients for their amazing dishes. There’s what I like to call ,“more than just a bar”. You can experience delicious freshly made juices, like the Root Remedy with beet, carrot, ginger, turmeric & lemon. It’ll cure whatever ails you. Well at least the thought of all the goodness that goes in it; would make you think so! And if you’re in the mood for a cocktail, the mixologist aim to please. Try the ginger martini. You’ll feel sexier while in the city!

One of the most exciting things about this Kitchen’s Food that’s the TRUTH is that they also serve BRUNCH!!! Yes, for all of you Brunchaholics, you’ll be sure to get your fix here. And the great thing is, you can remain in the healthy zone! If you’re a pancake fanatic like me, you have to try their protein rich Quinoa Johnny Cakes that’s filled with blueberries and topped with Greek yogurt and maple syrup. You can just thank me now! I must admit that I’ve visited this place three times already in the span of 10days and I can’t get enough of the TRUTH! I’ve have dinner and brunch with no regrets. I’m sure lunch is just as phenomenal! If you’re a curry lover, try the gluten free Panang Curry dish. It was just the right amount of curry and spice. Another must try is the Edamame dumplings (so good, I ordered two helpings…. Don’t judge me.) And if that wasn’t enough I had a fresh and crispy kale salad which was the freshest I’ve had outside of my own kitchen. You can’t have dinner without dessert. And their desserts are intoxicating. The Lemon tart and the Flourless chocolate cake are both great choices.

Once I stepped into the beautifully wood adorned dining area for the first time; I couldn’t’ help but anticipate the experience of what this virgin moment would possess. As the warm coziness of the ambiance assured my eminent joyful state, I still had a heightened anticipation of the potential mouth watering encounter. I settled in at my table at the gracious request of the matradee. In reviewing the menu; I couldn’t help but notice the “Shochu” listed on the wine and spirits portion. I learned that this was an exclusive feature of Lure. This beverage is somewhere between a martini and a glass of white wine. My foray into this hierarchical cocktail epiphany was met with a head nodding approval of it’s green citrus aromas and dominate sweet refreshing solace. It’s a must try!

For dinner I had the whole grilled Georgia trout served head and all with smoked trout grits. If you’re a fan of fish and grits; you’ll appreciate this uniquely paired twist on tradition. The fish is delicately seasoned with bold herbs and spices; which is then grilled with a little char that seals in the flavors and adds a fall off the bone scenario. The grits are the twist in this pairing; in that it actually have bits of smoked trout cooked in it. It’s a very creamy and rich consistency which when forked with a bite of the trout; makes for a self affirming moment of “I’m glad I ordered this”. As another side show; I had one of the most amazing display of brussels sprouts I’ve EVER had. Its impressive mixture of ingredients (grapes, pumpkin seeds and lemon aioli ) made this an immediate favorite. If you’re not a fan of brussels sprouts; this maybe the experience you should have encountered to make that determination. It has swaying potential in its flavor. For desert I selected the guava and coconut bread pudding made with crème anglaise and toasted hazelnuts coupled with a scoop of in house made ice cream. Trust me when I say; you won’t be disappointed in this tantalizing tasty treat. The entire experience was AhhhhLURING and A Mouth Full! I’ll be sure to make another visit soon.

The inaugural Atlanta Street Food Festival was like a church picnic… Food Folks and Fans! The crowds begin to swarm at half past noon and continued well past that! There were people walking around with fans to beat the heat in this gathering of food lovers. There was a caravan of tempting and tasty truck delights ranging from Dr. Sweets to Sweet Water! The heat didn’t seem to compromise most people’s passion to indulge in the mix of mobile fare. The lines that stretched across the lawns were a testimony to the success of this event and people’s intent to have a mouth full of goodness. I couldn’t help notice the extremely long lines @bangedupandmash and @thepuptruck . I’m sure that people got their fill! This was a great event benefiting the Atlanta Community Food Bank and proceeds will go a long way to help hungry here in Atlanta. I’m glad I had a chance to witness such a outpour of support from the community. It was definitely a mouth full!

I had heard a lot about Empire State South but hadn’t had a chance to try it for myself until recently. I must say that the experience was indulgent and savory! As you enter the dining area you’re met with a certain southern charm that’s inviting and warm. The hospitality is accomodating and the display of culinary skill by Chef Ryan Smith is addictive. The Dushi Glazed octopus has a seemingly myriad of flavors that created an exciting dish. The sweetness of the GA quince and tangy taste of the shoyu mayo complimented the very tender octopus. Each fork full kept you engaged as if you were on a voyage of mystery and intrigue.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, the smoked duck showed up at the table. If a picture says a thousand words; a beautiful presentation says a myriad. This entrée was inviting at first sight. Adorned with green strawberry chow chow; the duck was cooked to perfection. It was succulent , non greasy or gamey. It was served with a perfect compliment of mustard greens nestled underneath. Once you have a seat at the table, get ready for a mouth full of southern goodness!

Although there’s no ‘Lane’ in Wisteria, the drama of the kitchen was ablaze in this quaint neighborhood attraction of food lovers. The ambiance caresses you in a comfort of knowing that you were about to embark on something special. The exposed beams , dim lighting and selected art pieces that adorned the marigold colored walls added a warmth to this cozy cove.

Even though the volume of laughter and conversations can get a little noisy; it’s soon tuned out by the lure of the captivating menu of mouth-watering selections. The Three Meat Bolognese was ‘Bre Van de Kamp’ kitchen worthy (rigatoni, beef tenderloin, pork and veal in a basil, tomato cream sauce with parmesan). It was a perfect combination of flavors and textures. It was definitely an incessant mouth full of wonderful goodness.

Culinary Fight Night August 23,2011

It was time for a smack down during Culinary Fight Night at Park Tavern. This competition with some of the best chefs in Atlanta proved to be a battle right down to the end. The contenders were; from the Red Team, Chef Clarence Ridgley. And from the Blue Team; Chef Chapin Vilasineekul. These two had to work with ingredients ranging from coffee to wasabi: it was hot and kept you awake at the same time. J The teams were comprised of students from the Cordon Bleu; which made it even more fun. The crowd was cheering for their favorite chef while they worked under the clock to get their dishes out to the judges; who were just as impressive. At the head table you had Nina Brown, Ginny McCormack, House Speaker David Ralston and Chef Delroy just to name a few.

The first round started off with the appetizers. The Red Team prepared a Cajun Barbecue Shrimp; while the Blue Team served up a tasty Wagyu Kobe beef Teppanyaki. After that round it wasn’t clear who was ahead but they continued to duke it out with the skillet. The entrée served as the second round. Although there was some staggering from both opponents; theRed Team came out victorious on my score card. Clarence’s Peppercorn seared Beef Tenderloin with Sauteed Brussels sprouts & baby carrots was a nice upper cut. The presentation was nice; the meat tender and the veggies flavorful. It was a contentious round.

Eventhough the Red Team appeared to have everything under control; Chef Chapin Vilasineekul had a rope-a-dope under his sleeve with the third and final round of dessert. He presented a nice Tre Leches that was comforting after such a fierce battle. As the judges deliberated and the crowd sat back in their chairs with content; it became clear that Atlanta has some talented and creative chefs burning it up all over the city. When the votes were counted; there were no dangling chads; there was a clear winner. Chef Clarence Ridgley and his Red Team came out victorious! It was a good experience and definitely a round house mouthful!

A perpetual fork filling adventure!

If you believe that good things come to those who wait; you need not wait any further. 10 Degrees South is where good things happen to all that have the pleasure of taking a seat at the table. Although dimly lit on the inside; it illuminates with such an energy that it’ll ignite the food lover within. Upon entrance you’ll be met with royalty like acceptance. As you walk beyond the initial seating area, you’ll be captured by the dinning room and cozy atmosphere: it says come in and partake in something amazing. While reviewing the menu, you can’t help but start the debate. Will it be the Bobotie Spring Rolls (Sweet ground beef curry, served with chutney) or will it be the Escargot (1/2 dozen snails sautéed in creamy garlic butter sauce). There are so many wonderful indulgencies to try from the Cape Town inspired restaurant, you begin to think you’ll have to come back and try something else the next visit. I decided to go with the Sosaties (Skewered beef filet marinated and topped with a sweet apricot curry sauce) as an appetizer. For the entrée I ordered the Peri – Peri Chicken (Cornish hen butterflied, marinated in peri-peri sauce and char-grilled, served with basmati rice and vegetables). The desert was called Di’s Delight (a warm, moist fruit sponge cake served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream). With all the flavors of my meal working harmoniously together; it felt as if there was a jubilee happening in my mouth. The Sosaties was some of the best beef I’ve ever tasted and the Cornish hen was what you would imagine a Greek God would have been served. It was tender, slightly spicy and sweet at the same time. The celebrated end of the main course was Di’s Delight; which is made fresh daily by the owner. It was an amazing joy of sweet goodness that caused a perpetual fork filling adventure. And as if it couldn’t get any better; the service was impeccable. Thanks Lisa for such a wonderful experience and great suggestions! Eat, Drink and just be!

The bloom of May flowers was the perfect prelude to the inaugural Atlanta Food & Wine Festival. There were miniature mounds of munchies as well as spirits of various variety on hand. The amazing food choices were from as far away as Texas and DC and as close to our backyard right here in Atlanta. Low Country Barbecue served up some tasty pork ribs with a sweet spicy sauce. Tom Bulleit paid homage to his great great – grandfather’s heritage with a smooth shot of Bulleit- Rye. (95% Premium Rye). That’s some great stuff for you whiskey enthusiast. Alon Balshan’s Strawberry Gelee was quite fitting for this warm summer day. It was like a small bite of paradise. And as if that wasn’t enough sweet temptation; Nicki Schroeder had the scoop with High Road craft ice cream & sorbet. I really enjoyed the strawberry and berry sorbet. The best in event; if you will, was the Catfish nuggets from Four Seasons! They were by far the best I've ever had. If you're looking for treat; stop in and order a plate or two. You won't be disappointed. For the most part all the food and spirits were great. I just wished there was more time allotted for each session. You really needed more than two hours to experience the entire event. With the food carts and the taste tents being a couple of blocks away from each other really didn’t allow you the time needed to get it all in. But all in all it was a great experience and would do it again. It was 4 outta 5 mouthfulls!

Nava serves it up!

There’s nothing that says spring time more than laughter on a patio in April. That’s what Nava ushered in with the grand opening of their patio on Peachtree. There were sounds of sweet surrender to the spring time weather by the Evans Hodges Trio. The billowing jazzy tunes were in perfect harmony with the clinging of glasses and spontaneous outbursts of laughter which set the mood for the evening.

The stage was set and it was time for Nava’s best performers to present themselves. The wait staff was on que with the flow of the evening. My waiter was very courteous and accommodating and made some great suggestions from the menu. He brought over a basket of some of the most amazing wait while your meal is prepared bread that I’ve ever had. Not only was it alluring with its green color but addicting as well. Being the bread lover that I am; I could have made a meal out of that alone. But before I could do that, my entrée showed up. I selected the Peruvian Chile Seared Lamb Loin with asparagus, yukon potatoes, cipolline onion, grapes and Tamarind – lime carmel. Chef Ryan did not disappoint. The presentation was tantalizing and made me want to dig right in. It was smile inducing at first bite. The lamb had the right balance of texture and flavor. Although a little heavy handed on the salt with the potatoes; this dish rose to the occasion. The assorted grapes added a nice burst of subtle sweetness to the onion and other spices. Over all this was an awesome mouth full and I will definitely be back for an encore!

Yoforia is where your guilty pleasures meet your healthy conscious. If you’re looking for a great desert alternative; you’ll have to try this new yogurt shop in the fourth ward on Howell Mill. Located at the bottom of the White Provisions Condos you’ll find many flavors of the seductive scoops of sweet temptation. Whether you like Mango, Vanilla, Pomegranate or Chocolate; this place will fulfill any desires you have of the yogurt variety. I decided to try both the Mango and Pomegranate mixed together with walnuts, brownie chunks, kiwi, strawberries and blackberries atop. It was AMAZING! The fruit is fresh and plump. And as if that wasn’t enough; you also have a choice of caramel and chocolate syrup. Go get you some and tell them It’s A Mouth Full sent you. You’ll be glad you did.

When looking for a choice in chop; swing by Season’s 52 for their Grilled Venison Chop. It’s nicely prepared and is not as gamey as I’ve experienced in the past at other restaurants. Once you’ve cut into this amazing cut of meat; you’ll experience the unlocked woodsy flavor. It’s tender and lacks the labor intensive chore of having to over exercise the art of chewing. It’s packed with multiple vitamin benefits; ranging from protein, Vitamin B12, Zinc, riboflavin, and omega -3 fatty acid. Along with the venison was a serving of mashed sweet potatoes and green vegetable trio and balsamic reduction sauce. The sweet and tangy tango of the potatoes and the green vegetable trio was like The Supremes singing “Come See About Me”. It was indulging, sweet and kept you wanting more. I love Seasons 52 and it gets 5 mouth fulls from me.

This year’s Midtown Harvest Festival ushered in the fall season like the changing leaves on the trees that align Peachtree Street. The setting was a trifecta with the simple elegance of the Livingston; a neighborhood café where everyone knows your name at the Baraonda and the urban upscale flair of Straits; where the hip and cool converge. The first stop was the Livingston. Upon entrance I noticed the crowd to be mixed in cultures and the music to be just as diverse. The Calo Giant Flamenco Dance Company was performing much to the crowd’s delight. As the performers danced and the music played; the patrons moved around the venue from wine station to wine station with stops at the cutting board where the chef was carving up some of Livingston’s brisket. It was succulent and bursting with flavor and alone was worth the $45 admission. I washed it down with a very aromatic and lightly sweetened Riesling from the cellar of Mark Davidson.

After taking the “ice tea” plunge; it was on to Ludacris’ restaurant. As the afternoon turned into dusk; I felt as though the experience was about to reach a crescendo. Upon my arrival at Straits, I was greeted by Shartae (an Audi representative) and Ashley (from the Naked Grape). I had a sip of their red wine which was bold, woodsy and not overly dry. I then made my way over to the bar where I presented my event ticket for the featured taste of the evening. Chicken Lollipops, spring rolls, shrimp wantons and roti prata. The chicken was a little sweet with a pinch of spice. The spring rolls were lite and crispy and not greasy. The shrimp wantons were delicious as well. As the evening progressed the crowd began to grow as if Ludacris himself was going to perform. There was smiles and good cheer all around; including those from Tia and Tamera Mowry. The wait staff was extremely nice and personable. The entire event was a day well spent and I would do it all over again. It was an extraordinary mouth full!

Although many were called; a few were chosen. The red onion jam swordfish from Legal Sea Foods Inc was prepped by Cordon Bleu student, Portia Mitchell. This young lady who had obviously been burning the midnight oil, made this mouthfull sample a worthwhile stop. Over at the Joey D’s station, Lauren was serving up their Spicy Shrimp samples. They might as well have been called scrumptious shrimp. It was as if I was on the trading floor of Wall Street the way people were screaming for more. I also enjoyed the veggie panini with egg plant, tomato and mushrooms at the Figo station. Chelsey; one of the hostesses kept them coming as people would walk by and inquire. This meatless masterpiece was surprisingly full of flavor and substance. I could have had a foot long. The one place that I didn’t get to try was Williamson Bros. BBQ. The line was too long. I would have to attribute that to the allure of the irresistible ribs and chicken. I’ll have to make a special trip to see what the rave was about.

Although there were many notable restaurants that were their, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the amazingly mouth watering jellies and jams at the Fairywood Thicket Farms station. Kimberly Connor was the very proud host of these JAMazing jars of various tempting jellies. If you hadn’t heard about them before; you are missing out on magic. After trying the Pumpkin Butter Jam, I couldn’t stop. She then suggested that I try the Jalapeno Lime Fiesta Jelly; which by the way would go well with a bagel and cream cheese or even a great dip for some fried shrimp. You’ll have to try it. All I could do is shake my head and reach for my wallet as I purchased three jars of my favorites. The afternoon ended much like it started: filled with excitement and anticipation. The Taste was an overall successful event. I’m looking forward to many more mouthfulls to come!

Takes TWO to Tango!

Once inside Two Urban Licks you feel as though you are about to be initiated into a tribal council cuisine du jour. I had been there before but something about this visit seemed extra festive for some reason. The waiters seemed to move through the crowd from table to table with the greatest of ease. There was an energy in the atmosphere that took you to another place. Maybe it was the live music playing in one corner. Or maybe it was the group of smiling faces which seemed to consist of family and friends celebrating a job promotion. Or it may have been the couple sitting next to me who was celebrating the wife’s birthday. Whatever it was; whimsical somehow came to mind. It appeared that the multitude of life’s milestones were being celebrated that evening and all was right with the world. Looking over the menu didn’t take long because I had my mind set on the smoked salmon chips for an appetizer and the grilled scallops with gouda cheese grits for my entree. As I sat waiting for the appetizer, I started to really take in the elements of the evening. The live band was playing the blues that filled the entire building with story like melodies. With the Atlanta skyline as the backdrop; the plot begin to thicken with the arrival of the salmon chips. They had a very smoky and lighty salty flavor. The capers , shaven green and red onions served as a jewel filled crown atop the kettle style potatoe chip. The combination of both was a very nice combination of crunch and punch! Soon after I was done with that, the entrée arrived. The tomatoe topped grilled scallops seemed to be strategically placed in the gouda cheese grits. At first bite I knew it was love. The scallops were grilled to perfection and had the right stringy consistency. Who knew that gouda had a best friend in grits. When these two get together; it’s a party! Loved the creaminess and lumpless texture of this maize porridge. The entire dish played into the night’s theme of good times and happy feelings! It was the Mouthfull that you would be thinking about for awhile. Thanks Two!!! Hope to Tango again!!

The Dresden Omelet

If you’re looking for a taste of Heaven on earth, Haven is the destination. Located in Brookhaven this upscale urban chic dining spot with its warm earth tones and soft amber lighting sets the mood for a much anticipated Sunday brunch. The dining room is very inviting. Its dark wood interior serves as a perfect backdrop to the white linen tablecloths and wall of grapes (the wine library). As I made my way to the designated table, I couldn’t help but think whether or not the old saying; “if it’s too good to be true, it probably is” would soon be realized. Time would tell. I ordered orange juice, the Dresden Omelet (filled with artichokes, asparagus, mushrooms and goat cheese) and a side of smoke bacon cheddar grits. Karen; who was the waitress, was very hospitable. We both had a mutual excitement about my virgin moment dining experience. Once I had the first sip of the orange juice; I suddenly felt as though that “too good to be true” saying may not have much meaning in this case. It was freshly squeezed and tasted like what I would imagine a morning sunrise in a glass would be. After a few sips of “rays”; the omelet arrived along with my side of grits. At first bite of my omelet, I was choked up. It was bursting with flavor. There was a modest amount of artichokes coupled with the asparagus, mushrooms and goat cheese. The flavors blended very nicely to capture the essence of a well made omelet; not runny and full of complimentary ingredients. The grits put you right in the middle of the Smokey Mountains in a log cabin in the middle of the coldest day of winter. The bacon accentuated the already amazing flavors of the creamy goat cheesed breakfast bowl of love! I didn’t want it to end; but like another great saying; all good things must come to an end! This brunch was a bunch of mouthfulls!!!

Hollywood meets Buckhead

On a hot late summer evening in Buckhead, one of the coolest places to dine and be seen is MF Sushi. Step one foot in this restaurant and it’s like walking onto a movie set. It’s lights, camera and action. The atmosphere is always festive. It fosters a communal mix of fine dining and the hippest social gathering spot for the less than faint at heart. The Spotlight was on the evening’s coming event; NeYo’s Champagne Campaign. Upon being seated and napkin placed in lap; it was Time to make a few selections from the menu. After looking over the appetizers, I was torn between the baked green mussels and the edamame. I asked the waiter and he suggested the mussels. I said, Sign Me Up. Choosing from the list of entrees was easy: it would be a Spicy Tuna roll and a Shrimp Tempura with Salmon roll along with a seaweed salad. When the baked mussels arrived it looked like a Beautiful Monster. Still in their warm shell; it had a special sauce with a sprinkle of chives and tobikko (flying fish eggs) all drizzled with an eel sauce. It had just enough hint of spice to let you know that water is your friend. All I could think of as I got Closer to the last one I could only imagine how Addicted I would become. I Ain’t Gotta Tell You that I would be coming back for more. Soon after the mussles made a Fade Into The Background; it was time for the rolls to make their debut. They had great presentation (no bad side for this pair). The tuna fish was fresh and the shrimp tempura was still slightly warm. Both were amazing. The over all quality of the food was impeccable. Once done with dinner I was asked to Stay and enjoy the Moet sponsored event for NeYo’s upcoming CD Libra Scale. The crowd begin to swell with anticipation of a Champagne Life type evening where dreams and reality is one in the same. There was a nice mix of celebrity in the building; V-103’s Frank Ski, producer Dewayne Stephens, Lisa Wu-Hartwell (former Atlanta Housewife), Isaiah Mustafa aka “Old Spice Guy”, Ludacris, Chaka Zulu, Kenny Burns and Bobby Valentino; just to name a few. Gone Green

Step one foot into Bocado and you feel like you have turned a page of the latest Elle Decor magazine. The décor was simple and fresh. The wall color was that of a Kermit the frog hue. If you’re thirsty and you know it; clap your hands! The cleverly designed bar was very artistic in nature. It adorned wall mounted opened ended cylinders made out of recycled cardboard. The cylinder like shelves were filled with various selections of your favorite “grapes”. The seating area was moderately accommodating with both indoor seating and patio lounging. The lunch menu was more than fair which mainly consisted of salads and sandwiches. The food selection was reasonably priced; with nothing over $12. For lunch I selected the crab po boy with avocado, lettuce, pickles and spicy remoulade and a side of herb fries. When the food arrived at the table I couldn’t help but think if this was going to be an overly battered bunch of lost lump crab. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it wasn’t. The jumbo lumped crab fritters were actually those where the crab decided to make an appearance. Seasoned to perfection with a nice touch of avocado; made this sandwich sing. The herb fries were also a nice supporting cast which had a hint of garlic to help round out this uniquely matched pair. Over all this was mouth full!

Shaun's Restaurant

I must tell you that I was excited to visit this restaurant. I had heard about it a while ago so I wanted to see and taste what it was all about. Step one foot into this place and it's atmosphere provides cool colors and simple decor. The wait staff was pleasant and the aroma was very inviting. After being seated and asked for our drink order I begin to look at the menu and quickly knew that I was up for a challenge. If you have to turn the one page menu over after first glance you know right away that you're faced with tough decisions. After a few minutes of debating, I decided on the chedder waffle, grits and a glass of OJ. Once the food arrived; I was intrigued by the presentation. It was darker than any recent memory of a waffle that I've had before. But I thought maybe it was the chedder that helped facilitate that. It also had a spoon full of peach compote with cinnamon sprinkled over it. None the less my mouth watered with anticipation anyway. I reached for my fork and began to work on tasting the waffle. I only say work because it was a bit over cooked and overly crispy . It took a couple of attempts to get a piece of it on my fork. The first bite was my last. It was dry and without much flavor. I knew that this wasn't going to be a good experience. I decided to just drink my OJ and eat when I get back home. It's not often that I'm sitting in a restaurant and think about what I'm going to eat later. When the bill came and had a $5 price tag for the OJ; it only helped me in determing that this would not be a mouth full!

There are many Thai restaurants around the city that touts a great authentic experience; however a large percentage fall short. This Thai restaurant that sits nestled in the corner of the Cobb Parkway shopping plaza is a real jewel. The ambiance is open and bright. The service is impecable and the food is always delivered timely and with a smile. The other day I had the soft shell crab with light curry sauce. The presentation was picturesque and alluring. I ordered it with the brown rice; which made it an extra treat. The spice wasn't too intrusively hot but prepared just right. The broccoli was cooked to perfecton and the added red and green peppers made the entire dish pop! Bravo! Bravo! Another Mouth Full by Thai Diner.

Game ON!

It was the Grand Opening of the new restaurant Saskatoon. I was first met at the entrance by Mercedes. No it wasn't car service; but it was just as nice. She was of the buppy savoir faire model type. I had reservations so seating wasn't a problem. I requested a seat in the back so that I could observe and take in the experience of the dining room. The waiter; Deonte came over and welcomed me to the restaurant and thanked me for choosing to dine with them. He presented me with a menu to look over and took my drink order. Filled with anticipation and a grawling stomach; I opened the menu only to notice that it was empty. Hmmm. I thought to myself; Is this one of those places where whatever you can think of they would prepare? I soon found out that not to be the case. I was given another menu. After an explanation of the line up of appetizers and entrees I thought I was about to experience an episode of Wild Kingdom. After much debate; i decided on the wild game sampler. It consisted of buffalo, ostrage and deer. (Lions,tigers and bears.. oh my). I have to admit that I was nervous about the assembled team but said what the heck; "game on"! Although I did have my head in the sand about trying ostrage for the first time, once at the plate I was ready to swing at anything coming. First at bat was the buffalo. It was awesome! It was tender, suculent and grilled to perfection. Second at bat was ostrage and it cleared second base without hesitation. It was reminiscent of steak. Don't be fooled by the color of the meat. It has a naturally redish brown tint to it. Next up was "bambi". I have to tell you that it struck out with me. It was a bit too rare for my taste and was sent back to the dugout for more coaching. Over all it was a great showing by the home team. As visitor I held my own and would travel again to play! Thanks Saskatoon for a wild game mouth full!

Fowl meets Mary's Little Lamb

This Greek Diner is a simple pleasure. The dining area is open and well-lit and reminds you of a New York diner along Madison Ave. It's busy with short order cooks and waitresses without the attitude. I was in the mood for a main staple in the Greek culture; the gyro. I decided to have the chicken and gyro combo sandwich. Oh man! This combination was awesome together. This massive mound of meat was very filling. It's served with your choice of a side. I had the baked potatoe wedges. If you're hungry when you sit down; you're assured not to be when you exit the building. You'll also have some change left because the prices are very reasonable. The portions are fit for a Greek God! No complaints with this choice. It was two mouths full!

Stephanie Mills said it best: "When I think of home, I think of a place where there's love overflowing". Nothing can be more true than when I attend the Dinner Lab experience at Goat Farm. The love and passion that went into this production of high energy and low tolerance for mediocrity was nothing short of exceptional. It totally transforms the way "market to table" is presented. With the table set and the anticipation of next hanging in the balance; you start to feel that this is something special and history is about to be made.

Dinner Lab 3 of 5 was defiantly a charm. It was like an imagined love affair come true. Chef Ryan Haigler with his anointed culinary precision got it perfectly right with all five courses. One of the stand out dishes that accosted my palette with bold and unexpected combinations of flavor was the Chilled Avocado + Yogurt Soup charred celery salad | Cayenne. The first spoonful, which seemed to be synchronized with a resounding OMG from everyone at the table!! It was smooth and refreshing; which captured the essence of the season. The texture was creamy and had the consistency of a bisque. It was amazing!

The entire evening will not soon be forgotten! If you have a chance to attend a Dinner Lab; you won’t be disappointed!

The succulent shrimp, decadent crab legs and the meaty lobster tails were the hit of the evening. While expecting great seafood from a place like Fleming’s is the norm; the obsessive induced behavior is quite a surprise. Well; not really. From the moment the food arrived at the table; it was all hands on deck! And if you’re a seafood lover; you’ll soon find yourself in a frenzy to taste the next item on this tower of tasty treasure! Make a visit to Flemings and see for yourself! You’ll be glad you did!

The beautiful and hot go to spot is located in the heart of Decatur. No. 246 has the heartbeat of authentic Italian cuisine. The stark white walls are a sharply contrasted canvas against the hardwoods. As patrons fill the dining room; is like a different stroke that brings this masterpiece of culinary dreams and cozy conversations to life. The friendly and attentive staff makes you feel at home immediately. Whether you’re on a date or hanging with some friends, you’ll surely find yourself smiling and head nodding in the affirmative of culinary bliss. The décor and art that adorn the walls are conversation pieces and the chef’s corner is a front row seat to the magical theatrics that go on behind the scenes. Speaking of scenes; Hollywood movie shakers have focused their lenses on this place and can be seen in the Amy Poehler and Jessica Alba film A.C.O.D. There are elements of surprises with this place. Upon stepping out on the outdoor patio; you’ll feel as if you’re in a back yard get together with friends. There is cozy one on one table tops along with high top benches in the grass. And if you’re a ping pong lover; you’ll have a chance to show off your skill with the ping pong table right in the center of it all.

As the scene was set; the food was served. I had the privilege of tasting some of the most amazing food that the Atlanta area has to offer. The ‘Toasts’ are a tantalizing tease of an eminent crescendo of wishful fare. The roasted local peppers, anchovy vinaigrette and pinenutes were a nice combination atop bruschetta bread. The roasted African Squash Soup was as exotic in taste as it sounds. The creamy consistency with a hint of nutty sweet flavor was comforting. The pork shoulder melts in your mouth with the interestingly similar texture as the soft polenta. The braised olives, apricots, local peppers and parsley were great flavor enhancers that added to the already mouth watering party. And as if that wasn’t enough; the enchanted evening was made perfect with the chocolate cake (with olive oil and salted caramel sauce.) It goes without saying that the No. 246 experience was a mouth full.

Sex in the City has never been as alluring as it is at this newly swank dubbed steak house. STK exudes a seductive ambiance with it’s ultra lounge feel and exotic beats that’s piped throughout the 9000 square foot 160 seat dining room. Ladies be ready to try a stiletto that’ll surely be a nice addition to your dining ensemble. (Made with Grey Goose citron, cucumber, mint and fresh lime juice). Don’t be fooled in thinking that this is an all girls haven. The guys will also be equally enticed by a nice catch or two. The 'meet' is always something to look forward to. Whether it’s a pan seared John Dory or the Beef Short Rib with carrot butterscotch –cipollini onion , you’ll be sure to feel like you’ve arrived. The climactical evening would not be complete without a toe curling/eye rolling inducing moment. The Birthday Cake is everything you'll ever wanted in a dessert (almond torte – cookies and cream – vanilla rum butter). Although you won’t be blowing out any candles, you’ll begin to think that wishes do sometimes come true!

All is well at this stylish hidden gem that's nestled in the middle of Inman Park. The fusion between the owner's west coast savvy (Richard N. Wadlington)and Chef Jorge I. Pacheco's Latin roots makes this dining location a perfect get away. The dining room ushers in a lounge type atmosphere with moderate contemporary design. It's a great date spot. The service was quick and attentive and once seated the anticipation of the Parks Edge experience post Kitchen Nightmares was mounting. Even though several previously featured fair didn’t make it through the wrath of Hell’s Kitchen; there were still many taste bud teasing temptations to choose from that were Heaven! I found the prices to be moderately priced with a variety of dishes that had hints of familiarity (surf & turf). I settled on the calamari with the green goodness sauce as a starter. For my entrée I decided on the Bone in Pork Chop. The presentation of both dishes were inviting and mouth watering. The calamari was some of the best I’ve had in the city. It was NOT chewy and over battered. The tender and crispy combination went well with the green goodness sauce; which is a very nice compliment to the dish. The pork chops were masterfully prepared and bursting with flavor. They were moist and wonderfully associated with the sweet potato puree, spinach apricot pistachio relish. Thank you Park's Edge for a very satisfying experience. It was a mouth full!

The temperature was perfect and the food, folks and fun were beautiful. From the moment you arrived you felt like spring had sprung in Atlanta. There was music playing, people dancing and plenty of food being devoured by many smiling festival goers. If you missed this year’s Oyster & Crawfish Festival; you deprived yourself of one of the most popular ushering in of spring events that Atlanta has to offer. You had your choice of fried baskets of goodness; oysters, shrimp or chicken. And of course there were those well seasoned/spicy HOT RED crawfish and the freshly flown in Connecticut (Blue Point Oysters) that adorned the laps of happy seafood hungry patrons. I have to admit it all was quite tasty with the side of corn on the cobb and potatoes. A festival would not be a festival without your choice of libation and fun inducing music. There were tunes from Cowboy Mouth, Ruby Velle & the Soulphonics, Heavy Mojo, The Squirrelheads and more. A great time was had by all. So if you're looking to have a great time and enjoy some great seafood, please be sure to mark your calendars next year. You'll definitely be in for a Mouth Full!

The first annual Atlanta Chefs Expo was a HIT! Despite the inclimate weather; the incredible talents under one roof shined brightly enough that it didn’t make a difference. Upon entrance I felt a festive disposition fall over me. The music that filled the air added to the electrifying celebratory feel of the afternoon. The extraordinary line up of chefs featured some of the top culinary talent from all over the Atlanta area. Whether it was the dizzyingly delicious bowl of shrimp and grits from Deckard’s or the super moist bite size dream red velvet cake from Catered Cakes, the undeniable anticipation for more was at it’s height.

There were many unified smiles on the faces of the more than 650 patrons as they strolled throughout the venue nabbing a few of the savory appetizers (seafood and turkey sausage gumbo from Couteux’s Chef Herbert , fried chicken sushi from The Sterling Spoon, assorted sliders from The Hungry Peach and black berry & ginger cookies from Dr. Sweet’s Cake Emporium). The afternoon’s scene-stealers were the many delightful head nodding bites showcased by some of the most talented chefs in the south. With proceeds being donated to the Komen4Cure; it made you feel philanthropic. If you didn’t get a chance to partake in this year’s event; you truly missed a treat! But don’t be too discouraged. With the wildly successful event attendance this year it’s sure to be around for many years to come.

Frank Ski has gone “ Bright Lights Big City” with his latest addition to his repertoire. No doubt the new restaurant that bears his name; Frank Ski’s Restaurant & Lounge, will become one of the most talked about “It” spots in Atlanta. This hip and sophisticated haven of southern cuisine ushers in a feeling of down home dressed up with some where to go. Once you step though the doors of FSRL you’ll know that a lot of thought went into every detail to make this dream a reality. From the chic décor to the warm feeling you’ll get from the professional staff; you are enticed in wanting more.

There were many well wishers in attendance of the VIP reception to partake in the evening’s festivities: Angie Stone, RayJ, Bill Campbell, Tameka Raymond, Kenny Burns, Brenda Woods, Michael Knight and DeVyne Stephens to name a few. Everyone indulged in the samplings of Executive Chef Wes Davenport’s creations. The fish tacos, sliders, beef kabobs, and chicken skewers were a hit and a great pre-show of what’s to come once they officially open September 19^th. You’ll be able to sip on your favorite cocktail or wine while relaxing on the patio or in the red lounge. With the restaurant’s seating capacity of 300; there’s sure to be a seat at the table for you and your guest to enjoy some of what will become some of Atlanta’s most sought after specialties. It’s A Mouth Full wishes you great success on a dream come true!

Upon first entrance you’re not sure of what to expect. But once you’ve made it past the doors to the dining room; you feel that there’s something good cooking in the kitchen at Café 458. After being seated and looking over the menu, it didn’t take long to decide on the choice of the day. I had the buckwheat pancakes with peaches. The cakes were moist and the peaches were a nice sweet addition. A side of grits and chicken sausage accompanied to make the meal complete. The amazing thing that really delighted me was that all the proceeds for the weekend brunch go to the ACSS programs, which provide Atlanta’s homeless men and women with weekday meals and the tools and resources to gain self-sufficiency. Knowing that your patronage of this place was going towards a good cause made you want to come back for more. IAM will definitely be back! Thanks for a great meal that will keep on giving!

Smoked Turkey Ribs... Mmmmmm Mmmmm Great!!!

If you’re looking for a restaurant that’s good for your soul; look no further than Michon’s. The southern food inspired gem has just what you’re looking for when it comes to great down home cooking. The amazing food, folks and fun is a trio that’s complimentary for visiting. You will indulge in the southern comfort of an extensive menu that ranges from smoked meats like “turkey ribs” to pasta Alfredo dishes. Michon’s is like a home away from home. Once you’ve visited; you’re like family. The flavors of the foods are unique and reminiscent of backyard bbq with smoked meats coupled with grandma/auntie prepared sides. And if the food wasn’t enough to keep you smiling; there’s often live musical entertainment that await your evening visits. You’ll hear anything from jazz to two stepping tones from the house DJ. So if you don’t mind licking your fingers more than twice and tapping your feet; head towards Virginia Avenue and stop in . You’ll be glad you did. It’ll be a southern smokey Mouthfull!!!

This techno savy hob knob pizzeria palace is where innovation meets at the intersection of culinary skill and musical intervention. This isn’t your normal pizzeria. This space aged brain child of Christian Ruffin and wife Nacasha; propels you into the future that is now. Whether it’s making selections from your digital menu (iPad) or making a video selection that projects on the walls; you’re sure to feel a bit of “ George Jetson” nostalgia.

When the pizza arrived the anticipation of the first bite had crescendoed. There wasn’t a disappointing bite. Each smile induced chew was made with savor and repeated intentions. The gluten free crust was both crunchy and chewy. The Italian sausage was perfecto and it’s existence short lived. The dessert arrived and the banana pudding was smooth , sweet (enough) and creaming; all made with natural ingredients. It was a great way to end a very satisfying meal! So if you are looking to experience great food, amazing city views, technology at its best and a place to relax and enjoy friends; Say I do! It’ll be a memorable mouthful!

As the bold and the beautiful of Atlanta’s society elite converged on the posh Buckhead mansion; it became immediately apparent that this was no ordinary affair. This was one of the premier events of the year! And it all was to benefit the Frank Ski Kids Foundation. The evening hosted an air of purpose, poise and pazazz as some of Atlanta’s who’s who mixed and mingled to share in the season of giving. The delicious bites were prepared by Carrabba’s Italian Restaurant; which featured succulent shrimp, tender chicken and beef dishes along with mac and cheese that kept you coming back for more, but not before trying some of Atlanta’s best conversation starters; cupcakes by Cami Cupcakes. Once you try one, you can’t help but tell somebody. It was all washed down with some of the best wines and spirits. Grey Goose and Belvedere made special appearances to suit the fancy of those none wine drinkers.

Although the weather outside was frightful, the atmosphere and ambiance inside were delightful. Endless conversations and music seemed to go hand and hand as both filled the room; which was met with “flashing lights” as the more well known guest started arriving. One of the highlights of the evening was the live auction held in the gymnasium. As the auctioneer gave specific instructions and familiarized the guest on the art of biding, the crowd began to buzz with anticipation with what was to appear for bid on the auction block. There were bids made for a champion bred horse, a Lil Wayne autographed bottle of Ace of Spades Champagne. And get this; there was even a “walk on role” to appear in the next Tyler Perry movie up for bid. That definitely got the crowd going.

When you generally think of fast food, you tend to think of a menu that consist of high calories, sodium and grease. Those conceptions can be left at the door when you visit Evos. Their organic menu with farm raised meats; fish, chicken, turkey and beef; gives you comfort of knowing that you’re eating healthy. From the moment you walk in, you feel the organic nature in which this concept was intended. Everything from the decor; with it’s green walls and environmental friendly designed furniture, to the signature oval on the ceiling; lets you know that customer experience was one of the things that was top of mind. No stone was left unturned when this “feel great” restaurant was conceived.

Not only is the surroundings are comforting; that also is true of the food. I had a chance to try the turkey burger, airbaked fries and mango smoothie. The turkey burger was very juicy and flavorful with a little kick. The salt free greaseless fries were crispy on the outside and “potatoey” on the inside. With its 200 caloric count; you feel as though you were indulging in a sinless pleasure that wouldn’t require you to be calorie conscious. You can feel great about eating fries. And with your choice of four homemade ketchups; garlic gravity, cayenne firewalker, mesquite magic and original, you’re sure to be a repeat offender. The no sugar smoothies are made with real fruit. Take one sip and it puts you on a sunny Caribbean beach with steal drums playing in the distance. When you visit Evos, you will feel as though you are on vacation from the other fast food options that you have been use to. They have even gone an extra step in that they will assist you with a nutritional guide to help you insure that you're getting your daily allowance of nutrition. What’s also eye opening about this customer caring focus is that they also have an allergy chart to provide assistance to those customers that may have allergies affected by certain ingredients. I can’t say enough great things about this revolutionary dining experience. Be sure to ask for Owen and let him know we sent you. Exhale and enjoy! You’ll be glad you did! It was a healthy and tasty mouth full!

Georgia Aquarium

Seaing is believing. As I entered the Ocean Ballroom of the Georgia Aquarium; the sea of people seemed to blend in rhythmically with the beautiful fish that swam thoughout the huge tanks on display. I was overwhelmed with shear bliss. After all, it was my first time attending Aqua Vino. I had read and seen videos about this premiere event and thought what a great opportunity to explore amazing gourmet fare from more than 30 of Atlanta’s best restaurants and wines from all over the globe. Upon picking up my ticket from the media check in table, I made my way to the waiting area that I coined, “the holding tank”. This is where everyone stood prior to entering the main room of the Ocean Ballroom. The clock struck 7pm and all the things that I had read about were soon to become realized first hand. I presented my ticket and made my way to the photographer taking pictures of guests as they arrived. Once my eyes adjusted from the bright flash of the camera; it was like an awakening to a magical wonderland of heavenly cuisine and provocative wines. Walking towards the food stations; which were just beyond my reach, I was given my wine glass for the evening. I felt as though it was a golden goblet to toast the many treasures that I would experience on this Jacques Cousteau exploration of fine dine!

The first thing I noticed once in this oasis was the aquatic hue of blue that illuminated the entire room. Everyone moved around the room like fish looking for their next great find. My first stop was the Bacco Fine Wines station. I had the Veglio Barolo, Piedmont. It’s harmonic body and delicate yet intense bouquet of fruits and spices awakened my palate for the evening. From there I made my way over to Eclipse Di Luna for my taste of wild boar. It was tender with a little hint of spice. Chili esque in flavor, it made me realize that fall is upon us and how I wouldn’t mind having a full portion. I then made my way over to The Livingston restaurant table. As I approached, I recognized the gentleman behind the table. Mr. Livingston I presumed… Not so much! It was none other than Zeb Stephenson; a chef that I had featured on my Facebook page. He was hard at work replenishing the braised lamb and toasted pistachio samples that were rapidly disappearing from the table. It was great to meet the man behind the magic at the Livingston. The lamb was melt in your mouth delicious. After that great experience, I knew I would soon be “Goin Coastal” at the Goin Coastal Seafood station. Chilled shrimp and lump crab was the featured choice. Bursting with flavor; this small bite held it’s own in the line up of awesome foods that I would try throughout the evening. It was literally two mouth fulls. Yes I had two and would have had more if I didn’t have the entire evening ahead of me. I tore myself away and made my way over to the Atlanta Grill (Ritz-Carlton) station . They had prepared some very tasty beef cheeks that were reminiscent of stewed oxtails in brown sauce. Eventhough I was tempted to stay for more, I knew that there were other wonderful food left in store.

As I approached the winding ramp to the lower level; I could hear the live band, Rio Negro, playing Night in Tunisa. It was almost ceremonial as I descended to the next level of ecstasy. There was the La Giverny Bistro with their delicious flat bread made with caramelized onions, black olives and blue cheese. Pittypat’s Porch featured their pork sliders. They were the best I’ve ever had!!! Johnny Rockets was making milkshakes. The vanilla was refreshing and went well with the Melting Pot’s desert skewer of brownie, yellow cake and strawberry. And as if that wasn’t enough sweets; I had to try Highland Bakery’s dolphin cake! This thing was “beluga massive”. It was an extremly moist yellow cake with a very artistically displayed blue and white cream cheese style frosting. Thanks for showing us your masterful culinary skill in the baking department. I can still taste a little of the "fin". There were also silent auctions going on for some really nice items, such as a VIP Tour, Tasting & Dinner for 6 at the Hess Collection Winery- The Hess Collection Winery; a $1500 value. As the evening began to wind down; I had to pay homage to the very special hosts of the evening; the exotic fish and aquatic wildlife that were on display. There was the albino crock, the menacing piranha tank and the adorable sea otters. They all seemed to be on their best behavior as if they knew that there were special guests in the house! I can not say enough great things about the evening! All proceeds went towards the support of the Aquarium’s Veterinary Services through the Correll Center for Aquatic Animal Health. Thanks to the Georgia Aquarium and all the special hosts for putting on such a classy and memorable event! A special Thank You to Mackenzie Whalen for inviting IAM to cover this tremendous event! I’m already looking forward to many mouthfulls next year!

Step into this Italian eating den and you’ll know that you are about to partake in a fine feast. When a friend and I arrived at Pacci, I couldn’t help but take note of the traditional yet modern décor of this swanky dining room. The walls were sage “esque” in color and there were suspended bulbs in hula skirt type fringe. The atmosphere was open yet still provided an intimate feel. Upon seating; Sara (our waitress) took our drink order and politely thanked us for dining with them. She suggested the Red Ruby; which was a cross between a mimosa and a pomegranate juice. It was very tasty. As an appetizer we had an order of calamari. Melt in your mouth good doesn’t begin to describe how wonderful they were. They were not overly fried nor under seasoned. I wanted to take some to go. A must try! For my entrée I had the ½ rack Colorado Lamb with a side of sautéed spinach. As we waited for the entrées to arrive, a waiter brought over an “intermission bite” of their pork belly ravioli. The thought of that alone raised a brow of curiosity. At first bite of this slightly spicy mouthful of amazing flavor; I wanted to say grace again and thank Him for this experience. I soon began to feel like I was being teased because everything was amazing up to this point. When the entrees arrived, the immediate vicinity became filled with an amazing smokey aroma. As I cut around the fat that held in the juices and flavor; it unleashed a bold smokey flavor that was tender and succulent. The pomegranate – basil pesto was a very nice touch as a dipping sauce. Being that the menu changes seasonally, I’ll definitely be back to visit this new found treasure. A mouthfull no doubt!

If authentic Caribbean food is what you crave, make sure you stop by Simply Delicious Caribbean Cuisine on Highland Parkway. When you enter this Bahamian oasis, you’re not really sure what to expect. The décor is very simple. The vibrant colors on the walls are reminiscent of those from the Caribbean. Although the staff is minimal they are dedicated to making sure each patron has a pleasent experience . The service is very efficient and friendly. It’s a restaurant where you place your order at the counter and then seat yourself. After placing my order for the chicken stew, peas and rice with a side of cabbage, I found a spot in their open seating dining area. As I sat there, I couldn’t help but think if I would like it or if I would be faced with another self debate on what my alternative could be. When the food arrived it looked appetizing . With Marvin Gaye’s “Distant Lover” serenading us in the background, you quickly knew that there was some soul in the building. At first bite I knew that this place was something special. The chicken stew had a slightly spicy/sweet flavor. It had a few bones but it didn’t prevent the enjoyment of this selection. The rice and peas were equally delicious and prepared to perfection without any undercooked grains. Cabbage wasn’t soggy and still had a little crunch to it. I was very pleased with both the food and the service at this hidden gem. What a great mouthful mon!

MidCity Cafe

This sidewalk cafe is a perfect place to eat, drink and play. With it's Southeast Asian cuisine; you'll be sure to meet your appetite's comfort. When you walk in this place your senses take over and your interest is peaked. You'll hear the sounds of fusion lounge music playing in the background and the smells of something just right cooking in the kitchen. I was met and seated by one of the owners; Simon Hong. He did the honors in selecting a few choice items from the menu. A couple of notables were the fried egg rolls and the bbq pork sandwich. First to arrive at the table were the egg rolls. These were no out of the bag, last minute fridge selection for a party you didn't prepare for on a Friday night. They were made from twelve ingredients that came together like a group of friends that hadn't seen each other for awhile; very exciting, tasteful and not too much! The cabbage and carrots tasted as if they were home grown and hand selected out of your grandmother's garden. The other added ingredients were fused together to make this fun finger food an exception to the rule. Next to the table was the guest of honor and one of their signature sandwiches; the bbq pork. It had fresh cabbage , crunchy carrots, cucumbers and raw jalapeno peppers atop the tangy/spicy flavored bbq pork. All this was housed in a beautifully baked baguette. I couldn't help but smile and think that I should pace myself in order to savor every bite. The experience at this midtown cafe was both superb and satisfying. Another great mouthfull!

A Mid-Summer's Night of Bliss

As the sun set on the densely populated tent at Park Tavern, I smiled with anticipation of a night filled with food, folks and fun. In making my approach to the red carpet type entrance, I felt the manifestation of the celebrity within. I thought; this is where it all happens under the big tent! After the mini photo shoot; which captured my best side, I followed the music as I made my rounds to several food stations as if my feet were guided by the pied piper. I begin to feel like a kid in a Willie Wonka factory. Excitement exuded my existence. There were food stations that lined the perimeter of the tent. People were smiling with glee as they became acquainted with some of the finest cuisines from some of the best and most talked about restaurants that Atlanta has to offer. There were watermelon salads with a hint of mint from the Shed at Glennwood; which was very refreshing and fitting for this very "hot" occasion. I also had the pleasure of having some of the best rolled ravioli ever from Il Mulino. It was filled with seasoned mushrooms topped with a cream sauce that melts in your mouth. From that experience, I made my way over to the sushi bar that RA Sushi had posted near the outdoor bar area. The spicy tuna roll was rolled to perfection. It had my taste buds in a standing ovation and wanting an encore. After sampling a few entrees; I felt it only fitting to explore some sweet indulgences. I walked over to where the Highland Bakery station was located. The presentation of the very meticulously placed deserts was picturesque. There were miniture french vanilla butter cream cupcakes. Along side were a couple of tree like stands that adorned the likes of brownies, fruit tarts with strawberries and blueberries atop. They all seemed to be placed there with care with hopes that Saint Nick would soon be there. Although it wasn't Christmas time, these small gifts kept giving. After having my way with the sweets; I couldn't fight the temptation of wanting to try New York Prime's prepared sampling. Their choice was the Filet Mignon with a side of mashed potatoes topped with gouda cheese and a tasty side of their seafood bisque. If loving food is wrong; I don't want to be right! I was speechless. It was one of the best selections of the evening. I could go on and on about the awesomely showcased food of the night. Over all Jezebel Magazine did it again! The evening was enchanted. If I had to have my last supper I think I would be in great hands with the restaurants that were there. Here's to you; because the night was kind of special! An amazing mouth full!

Fish without the Oil.

This little sushi spot in the Castleberry Hills is a great find. This sushi, wine and sake lounge's atmosphere is very urban chic. Seating is very quaint and the service is usually quick. Reservations aren't necessary and prices are very reasonable. There's an array of tasty selections on the menu from a Pink Lady to a Happy Ending . And yes we are still talking about sushi folks. I decided on the Spicy Tuna roll and a Bulls Eye Roll (Eel, crunchies, & avocado topped with yellowtail, jalapeno pepper & tabiko). The fish was extremely fresh and had no remnants of any oil spill off the gulf. The rice and seaweed was perfectly rolled and the rice wasn't mushy. You'll be a very happy customer with this westside sushi hot spot. It was just the right mouthfull!

Apres Diem

Apres Diem is an impression maker! It's atmosphere puts you along the Champs Elysees of Paris. With it's eclectic decor and relaxing atmosphere; it's sure to calm your soul and right any wrong disposition. Upon entry; I went straight to the back of the restaurant where it opens up into a huge living room type dinning area. It has couches and coffee tables that line the perimeter; which gives an inclination of a very long stay that includes engaging conversations and laughter. After being seated at one of the coffee tables; I couldn't help but admire the comfortable couch and how I wish I had one in my livingroom. I then remembered why I was there. The waitress walked over with a smile and took my drink order. When she returned, I was ready to place my food order. I asked for the French Toast a la Diem. It's made with french bread egg-dipped and grilled. Topped with fresh fruits (strawberries and bananas), dusted with powder sugar & served with warm syrup. After about 15 minutes, the food was out. Upon looking at this dish; I thought, WOW! I knew that our acquaintance wouldn't last long and I would soon be reminiscing on how we met. The fruit was fresh and naturally sweet and the toast was just the right thickness without being too doughy.
For my sides I had a small bowl of grits and soysage. If you like grits; after trying these, you will LOVE them. They were amazingly creamy with a consistency of whipped potatoes. The soysage was flavorful and not salty (which often times is the case with soysage). All was washed down with a glass of FRESHLY squeezed orange juice. If you like pulp; you'll be sure to get your fix with their glass of OJ. I can't wait until my next field trip there! Magnificent! Oh what a great mouth full!

Great Escape !

When a friend asked me to accompany him at a new neighborhood restaurant which bore the name Abattoir (which means a building where animals are butchered); I raised an eyebrow with intrigue. Upon entering there were no signs of dead animals and butchers running around with blood stained aprons. It was quite the contrary. The decor was reminiscent of an urban chic warehouse loft with blues playing in the background. We sat at the bar where we were met with superb service by the bartender; Ryan. Upon looking over the menu; I came across the crispy chicken paillard. Not thinking that it was really fried; I ordered it. When the food arrived; it looked like fried chicken.... hmmmm. Being that I don't really eat fried foods; I was inclined to ask for something else. But I decided to go for it. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It was lightly battered and fried ever so slightly. It was seasoned where you could still taste the chicken flavor (which is a great thing). It came with local greens and bacon square bites; which added to the smoky flavor. I enjoyed every bite. I'll be back for sure! An amazing mouth full!
